New Zealand No 1 Marina Erakovic has thrashed 14th seed and world number 33 Elena Vesnina of Russia 6-1 6-2 in the first round of the Carlsbad women's tennis tournament in California.
Erakovic next play Virginie Razanno of France who is ranked 73rd in the world.
It wasn't the same in the doubles with Erakovic and Jarmila Gajdosova of Australia going down to Anastasia Rodionova and Olga Savchuk 2-6 1-6 in the first round.
