Tennis: Erakovic sets up meet with Williams

Marina Erakovic set up her first singles meeting with 13-time grand slam winner Serena Williams after winning her second round match at the WTA tournament in Charleston this morning.

The Kiwi No 1 beat Georgian Anna Tatishvili 7-5 6-3 and will meet the former world No 1 in the next round.

Williams, who recently returned to the top 10, beat Russia's Elena Vesnina 6-3 6-4 in her first match on clay since the 2010 French Open.

"I forgot I hadn't played on clay in so long, but that's so true,'' Williams said.

"I really love the clay. I feel like it suits my game. I don't have to go crazy and move my feet so much. And it's no different from hard or grass - I should be able to play the same and do the same, if not better, because I have more time.''

Erakovic was broken only once. She hit 11 aces and broke Tatishvili six times.

She will face a much more difficult proposition in Williams, who has won more than US$34 million in career prize money and 39 WTA singles titles.

Erakovic has banked US$776,056 and is still chasing her first singles trophy.
