New Zealand tennis No 1 Marina Erakovic has progressed to the second round of the Bogota Open in Colombia with a straight-sets win over Switzerland's Stefanie Vogele.
Erakovic, the No 1 seed at the clay-court tournament, beat Vogele 6-3 6-4 and will now meet Romanian Edina Gallovits-Hall in the second round. The match started yesterday but was interrupted by rain after only one game.
"It was actually very difficult because we started yesterday with one game and continued today in the first match,'' Erakovic told reporters. "But also for me it's the first time here and it's high altitude. The breathing is still heavy and the balls are flying so I had to really focus and try hard so it was a very tight match. I think Stefanie played some good points but in the end I'm glad I won.''
Erakovic, the world No 58, is seeded to meet former world No 4 Jelena Dokic in the semifinals.
