Botting, who played his 200th game for the the Valley side last weekend, is set to line up on the side of the scrum for Valley today.
Clutha Valley will take on West Taieri in the final at the Southern region competition in Outram.
After numerous seasons for Clutha Valley at halfback, where he also played for Otago Country, Botting this season has moved into the forward pack, playing blindside flanker.
"We’ve got a couple of really good halfbacks and the coach asked me if I wanted to play somewhere else," Botting said.
"I’m just happy to be on the field and contributing to the team. It is different though. You do different things and I haven’t managed to get to every ruck. In the last couple of weeks I’ve managed to finish the game at halfback."
Botting’s 200th game was marked with a gutsy and high-scoring win by Clutha Valley, beating Crescent 46-38 at Clydevale.
Botting first played for Clutha Valley aged 17 in 2006.
He had one year at Zingari-Richmond in 2013, joining Chris Preddy and Lachie Moore at the club at Montecillo.
"I wanted to push myself at a higher level and see how I could handle it. A guy from the club came down and talked about giving us the opportunity. It was good fun.
"The good thing about it was you just had to look after your own role. You didn’t have to worry about other things."
Botting spent just the one year at the colours, as he bought a farm on the road to Lake Onslow, above Roxburgh, and became busy with farm work. He ended up playing for Roxburgh last season but it failed to field a team this season, so he returned to Clutha Valley.
He said it was a good team to play for and was proud to bring up 200 games. The married father of twin boys who will turn 2 next month is hoping for a repeat today.
Botting captained the team the last time Clutha Valley made the final, in 2012. The side ended up beating Lawrence, so Botting joked he was perfect when captaining in finals.
