St Kevin's College completed a season double yesterday, beating Waitaki Boys' High School 33-12 in the interschool after winning the competition game earlier in the season.

St Kevin's dominated the first half in Oamaru with a confident display of attacking rugby.

The forward pack was led by flanker Jacob Coghlan, No8 Filipo Veamatahau and loosehead prop William Sunderland, a former midfield back whose eagerness and anticipation were rewarded with two tries.

The St Kevin's backline was polished, led by outstanding centre Matthew Vocea, composed first five-eighth Brady Kingan and dangerous fullback Alex Collier.

Waitaki Boys' never really got on the front foot until late in the game. Halfback Kieran McClea was accurate but wingers Piliu Tavake and Cameron McClea and fullback Logan Searle were starved of opportunities.

Up front, props Jake Greenslade and Meli Kolinisau had their moments with the ball in hand.

St Kevin's halfback Brodie Flannery kicked an early penalty before Sunderland scored the opening try from a powerful pick and go.

St Kevin's led 16-0 at halftime and struck early in the second half. Waitaki Boys' failed to find touch and the St Kevin's pack roared through to send Sunderland in for his second try, Flannery's conversion making it 23-0.

This jolted Waitaki Boys' into its best period of the game, and an incision by prop Kolinisau saw centre Loni Misihoi touch down for an unconverted try.

But the comeback was short-lived as St Kevin's scored through replacement prop Paea Palaa.

Each side scored a try in the final five minutes, St Kevin's having the final say when winger Connor Newlands crossed out wide.
