It is the only team certain of a semifinals spot with one round to go.
The students were in rampant mood and scored seven tries when they beat Alhambra-Union 39-24 on Saturday.
University A leads the competition with 55 points and is followed by Pirates (41), Alhambra-Union (40), Kaikorai (37) and Taieri (37).
Four teams are vying for the final three spots and all have a chance to make the semifinals with just one round left.
On form, Kaikorai should get a bonus-point win against Green Island this Saturday and advance to 42 points.
Taieri has a chance if it wins and stops Alhambra-Union from getting a bonus point.
The other key game this week is between Pirates and Southern.
A bonus point would be enough to get Pirates into the semifinals.
University A 39 Alhambra-Union 24
The powerful student pack dominated the game as University A went on a seven-try jaunt to beat Alhambra-Union at the University Oval.
The students had a bonus point by halftime when they scored four tries to lead 22-12.
The loose trio of Paul Grant, Hoani Matenga and Brad Cameron was a tight unit and made hunks of ground up the centre.
Locks Josh Townsend and Alby Herron were always in support.
Herron was difficult to stop close to the line and was rewarded with two tries.
First five-eighth Chris Noakes showed a touch of class when he scored two first-half tries.
Fullback Matt Faddes had penetration on the counter-attack and David Thompson displayed pace on the wing.
The students sewed up the game with more powerhouse forward play as they scored two more tries in the first 12 minutes of the second spell to lead 34-12.
Alhambra-Union was desperate for the bonus point and scored its fourth try in the last minute when wing Tilitili Puloka scored his second try.
He had scored in the first minute of the game after a perfectly-timed cross kick by fullback Peter Breen.
Pressure from the University forwards forced Alhambra-Union into numerous mistakes, with dropped balls and passing that lacked precision.
University A 39 (Chris Noakes 2, Alby Herron 2, Matt Faddes, David Thompson, Wyatt McKay tries; Noakes con, Tom Halse con), Alhambra-Union 24 (Tilitili Puloka 2, Paula Kinikinilau, Matt Daly tries; Luke Reihana 2 con).
Halftime: University A 22-12.

Dunedin 25 Green Island 8
Dunedin dominated the second spell and scored three more tries when it beat Green Island at Kettle Park.
Dunedin's dominant pack won most of the ball in the first spell but its backline muddled its way through with turnovers and other lost scoring opportunities.
The ball was spilled on two occasions with the line open.
Green Island scored the first try when it counter-attacked.
Fullback Albert Alapati was tackled close to the line and flanker Jason Bint was up in support to score the try.
Dunedin finally scored after 30 minutes when flanker Simon Luke crashed over after a rolling maul from a lineout.
Dunedin led 10-5 at the break but the gap closed to two points when first five-eighth Alex Davies kicked a penalty goal soon early in the second spell.
Prop Will Henry led the charge for Dunedin in the second half when it dominated possession with its powerful scrum and dominant lineout.
Henry and hooker Dan Cairns made ground with the pick and go and lock Richard Thompson gained two-handed ball in the lineout and was dangerous with the ball in hand.
The first try started 80m out and the ball passed through several hands before powerful centre Michael Walding pushed off three defenders to score the try.
Dunedin gained the bonus point when it ran a penalty from close to its own line.
The ball went through 10 sets of hands hands before No 8 Joe Dobson scored in the corner after a 98m move.
Halfback Fraser Lau and Walding were the best of the Dunedin backs while centre Sam Erepia, No 8 Guy Archibald and Bint defended gamely for Green Island.
Dunedin 25 (Michael Walding, Joe Dobson, Dan Cairns, Simon Luke tries; Robbie Smith pen, con), Green Island 8 (Jason Bint try; Alex Davies pen).
Halftime: Dunedin 10-5.

Kaikorai 28 Southern 24
Flanker Alando Soakai celebrated his 50th game for Kaikorai with an aggressive and winning display to help Kaikorai lift the Frank Cadman Memorial Trophy at Bathgate Park.
Luke Herden was powerful in the Southern midfield and threatened the line every time he touched the ball.
He made the break for the first try when winger Greg Zampach used his speed to give Southern a 7-0 lead.
Kaikorai hit back late in the spell when centre Danny van der Voort broke out of his own 22m and No 8 Kensak Palepoi scored the first of his two tries.
Kaikorai led 11-10 at the break and extended the margin by seven points after two minutes when Palepoi scored his second try.
It looked to have the game safe when it led 25-10 after winger Richard Cowley broke out of his 22m and halfback Tomasi Palu was in support to score the try midway through the spell.
Herden brought Southern back into the game with a power-packed solo 30m run down the touch line when he pushed off tacklers to reduce the gap to eight points.
Another Herden break five minutes later led to a try by fullback Hamish Buick.
The Southern front row of Kees Meeuws, Ean Griffiths and Warren Moffat took control in the last 20 minutes and made ground with the pick and go.
The fleet-footed Julius Glasson added class to the backline as Southern almost pulled off a Houdini act to win the game.
Kaikorai 28 (Tomasi Palu, Kensak Palepoi 2 tries; Cam Rutherford 2 pen, con, Danny van der Voort pen, con), Southern 24 (Greg Zampach, Luke Herden, Hamish Buick tries; Lewis Hancock pen, 3 con).
Halftime: Kaikorai 11-10.

Taieri 66 Zingari-Richmond 0
A masterful display at first five-eighth from Andrew Reid inspired Taieri to a drubbing of Zingari-Richmond at Montecillo.
In a match that Taieri dominated with its open and, at times, high-risk approach, Reid's presence and option-taking was a steadying influence.
His two tries were textbook examples of an inside back's eye for the gap and exploiting opposition weaknesses.
Reid's confidence in directing play enabled outside backs Blake Korteweg, Jared Campbell, Tom Davie and Mike Kerr to flourish.
Kurt Webster relished the switch from lock to blindside flank with another top performance and was on hand to score a superb second-half try.
Another forward to stand out was hooker Henry Parker.
His try on the stroke of fulltime was a front-rower's classic from a maul close to the line.
Zingari-Richmond was competitive in the set pieces and had some scoring opportunities, but option-taking and handling errors turned the ball back to Taieri.
Taieri 66 (Andrew Reid 2, Blake Korteweg 2, Tom Davie, Jared Campbell, Kurt Webster, Mike Kerr, Rowan Beadle, Henry Parker tries; Reid 8 con), Zingari-Richmond 0.
Halftime: Taieri 24-0.
Referee: Dave Kennedy.
Pirates 20 Harbour 15
Glenn Dickson's boot punished Harbour's indiscipline as Pirates claimed a narrow win at Watson Park.
Dickson kicked five penalties, most from easy positions, as Harbour frequently infringed, and it also lost hooker Peter Mirrielees and George Folau to the sin-bin during the second half.
Harbour actually scored three tries to one, two to hard-running centre Folau, but Craig Sneddon missed all six shots at goal and it took too long to get into its work.
Dickson and Steve Bruce were an efficient inside-back combination for Pirates and Marshall Suckling was a continual danger with his elusive running at centre.
Warren Kearney was a hard-working No 8 and made the blindside break which led to openside flanker Clayton Jeftha's try.
Blindside flanker Josh Clark got through plenty of work and Nic Wilson was good value in all aspects at lock.
Harbour was without halfback Johnny Legg, who withdrew because of a hamstring injury, and both first-choice locks.
It trailed 5-17 early in the second spell but battled back well with tries to Folau and No 8 Ra Kahukiwa in the final quarter, but Pirates win was deserved, if not particularly convincing.
Folau was always a potential line-breaker for Harbour and flanker Eben Joubert, lock Sam Ready and Mirrielees were prominent in the forwards.
Pirates flanker Garth Swan was yellow carded just before the end.
Pirates 20 (Clayton Jeftha try; Glenn Dickson 5 pen), Harbour 15 (George Folau 2, Ra Kahukiwa tries).
Halftime: Pirates 12-5.
Referee: Ross Barnett.
