Rugby: Valentine ruled out of Hurricanes match

Halfback Josh Valentine has been ruled out of the Brumbies' Super 14 rugby match against the Hurricanes at Canberra Stadium tomorrow night.

Despite pulling through today's captain's run, the Wallaby said the hamstring injury took its toll mentally.

"[The hamstring] actually feels pretty good but it's more in the mind, I'm just not comfortable," he said. "It got through all the training during the week but there's still some awareness in my head.

"This is my first hamstring injury and I've always been told if you ever get a hamstring injury and you think it's right, take the extra week and make sure it's guaranteed to be right, so I'm taking that advice on board."

Valentine's place in the starting lineup will be taken by Patrick Phibbs, with James Stannard retaining his position on the bench.

The injury news was better for utility back Andrew Smith, who overcame his ankle injury and will start on the reserves bench.

Brumbies: Julian Huxley, Pat McCabe, Adam Ashley-Cooper, Tyrone Smith, Alfie Mafi, Matt Giteau, Patrick Phibbs, Stephen Hoiles (capt), Michael Hooper, Rocky Elsom, Mark Chisholm, Ben Hand, Salesi Maafu, Stephen Moore, Ben Alexander. Res: Huia Edmonds, Guy Shepherdson, Justin Harrison, Colby Faingaa, James Stannard, Brackin Karauria-Henry, Andrew Smith.
