Rugby: Jane returns for Hurricanes

All Black wing Cory Jane has been named to make his return from an ankle injury when the Hurricanes meet the Chiefs in Hamilton on Saturday night.

Jane missed last week's 42-14 loss to the Crusaders after tweaking his ankle at training last Thursday, and despite his absence being only one week it was a notable omission as the Hurricanes were badly exposed by a ruthless Crusaders team.

Halfback TJ Perenara (ankle) and Julian Savea (illness) also make their returns to the starting XV after they missed the loss to the Christchurch-based franchise.

Prop Reg Goodes could make his Hurricanes debut this weekend as he has been named in the No 17 jersey; Goodes suffered a shoulder injury in the team's last pre-season match, which made him unavailable until now.

Also on the bench, Jack Lam will return after two weeks out because of a concussion, suffered in the 42-18 win against the Sharks in New Plymouth in week seven.

The squad is largely made up of the same group of players that coach Mark Hammett has put his faith in all season.

The Chiefs have returned to New Zealand from their three-week road trip to Australia and South Africa where they claimed three valuable wins and sit two points clear at the top of the Super Rugby standings.

With their four-win four-loss record, the Hurricanes lie eighth on the table.

This weekend will mark the first time the two New Zealand sides have met in the regular season and they will play again in the last round of the competition in Wellington on Friday, July 13.

Kick-off in Hamilton is at 7.35pm.

Hurricanes: Andre Taylor, Cory Jane, Conrad Smith, Time Bateman, Julian Savea, Beauden Barrett, TJ Perenara, Victor Vito, Karl Lowe, Faifili Levave, Jason Eaton, Jeremy Thrush, Jeffery Toomaga-Allen, Dane Coles, Ben May. Reserves: Motu Matu'u, Reg Goodes, Mark Reddish, Jack Lam, Chris Eaton, Charlie Ngatai, Alapati Leiua
