University A has retained the Gallaway Trophy and is the only side certain of a semi-finals spot with just one round to go.
The students were in rampant mood and scored seven tries when they beat Alhambra-Union 39-24. Lock Alby Herron and first five-eighth Chris Noakes each bagged two tries.
A late try by wing Tilitili Puloka gave Alhambra-Union the bonus point and this could be crucial to its chances of making the semi-finals.
University A leads the competition with 55 points and is followed by Alhambra-Union 40, Pirates 41 and Kaikorai and Taieri 37. Only four points separate second placed Pirates and fourth equal placed Kaikorai and Taieri.
They all have a chance to make the semi-finals with just one round left.
