Rugby: Test causes seat switches

Some Highlanders season ticket-holders have been moved from their usual seat for the Bledisloe Cup test in October.

Tickets went on sale last week for just Highlanders and Otago season ticket-holders, and Forsyth Barr Stadium members, for the test on October 19.

Highlanders marketing manager Doug McSweeney said season ticket-holders had the right to buy a ticket for the test match and the franchise did its best to try to give them the same seat they had for Highlanders games.

But the New Zealand Rugby Union had to be given an allocation of seats for the test match and that included seats used by Highlanders season ticket-holders throughout the Super 15 season.

McSweeney said the situation over the test match had been clearly explained to all ticket-holders when they bought their season tickets.

The Highlanders have about 4000 season ticket-holders and McSweeney said if people could not sit in their original seat, there were plenty of other good seating options available.

The advantage of the stadium was that there was not a bad seat in the house.

A similar situation had occurred last year when the All Blacks played their first test at the stadium, and it also happened at tests at Carisbrook.

Dunedin Venues Management Ltd commercial manager Guy Hedderwick said all stadium members would get to sit in their allocated seat and also have the use of their lounges.

He said tickets were selling very well and he expected the game to be sold out.

Tickets for premium seats were $160 each and Hedderwick said that was only a slight increase from last year.

The last time a Bledisloe Cup match was played in Dunedin was in 2001, when the Wallabies won.

Tickets go on sale today to Otago Rugby stakeholders and volunteers.

There will be a sale for those who live south of the Waitaki River, starting on July 22, with the tickets going on sale to the wider public on August 10.
