Defending champions Taieri produced an impressive second half to overpower Zingari-Richmond 57-24 at Peter Johnstone Park this afternoon.
First five-eighth Josh Casey (32 pts) scored enough points to win the game on his own, dotting down for three tries and slotting seven conversions and a penalty. Zingari trailed 21-14 at the break and had given a good account.
But the missed tackles kept coming and with it the score mounted. The home side scored eight tries with five of them coming in the second spell.
In the other games, Dunedin prevailed 24-23 against University A, Alhambra-Union beat Pirates 39-23, Harbour beat Kaikorai 57-17 and Southern beat Green Island 40-17.
