Taieri life member Bob Cunningham (72) crosses swords with Dunedin life member John Piper (70) over who is going to come out on top in the club final today. Rugby writer Steve Hepburn referees.

Q Who is going win tomorrow?

Bob: Well, I'll tell you something. Do you know the score of games between Taieri and Dunedin over the past three years? It's six to one to Taieri. Six-one. We've had it all over them. So that must mean something.

John: That is true but they have been close. The only one I have missed was the one they won.

Q So does that mean you're not going to go tomorrow?

John: Ah, no, I didn't say that. I'll be there. We are in with a real show.

Bob: What about last year with that kick at the end? [Taieri's Hayden Parker kicked a penalty to win the game last year] That was truly a magnificent kick.

John: You had to bring that up didn't you? I remember watching it and I could not believe it. That was tough, real tough.

Bob: We gave them a 23-point start but came right back into it. It was magic.

Q Right, let's have a score, then.

Bob: I don't care, to be honest. One point ahead that will do me. As long as we are in front of them at the end, I'll be happy.

John: We might struggle a bit at times. The problem for us is we have not played for 80 minutes at any time this season. Why? Don't ask me.

Bob: I tell you what. That first 20 minutes last week in the semifinal against Southern. That was the best club rugby I have ever seen. Some beautiful tries.

Q Taieri have had a couple of good years. But is the run over?

Bob: That first year, winning it, it was stunning. Never thought we would win the final. Last year then we came back to win. We really want to do it again.

John: Losing comes down to different things in different games. Last year we had a penalty awarded to us and we were ahead and if we had kicked that goal, we would have been ahead by more than three. But the referee changed it and look what happened.

Q Let's cut to the chase. Who is going to be buying the victory drinks on Saturday night?

Bob: Right, I'd say 25-10 to Taieri. The beer at our clubrooms is very sweet, even if you happen to lose but I do not think that will happen.

John: I'm picking 16-14 to Dunedin. Close, but a win.
