Rugby: Second chance to buy tickets to World Cup games

Individual tickets for Rugby World Cup matches, including the three games in Dunedin, will go on sale on Wednesday.

There is no set sales period, and tickets will be sold on a first in, first served basis.

A Rugby World Cup spokesman said the sale of the tickets offered a second chance to those people who had not bought tickets in the four-week window in September-October.

People had had to apply for tickets in that period and should have been notified in late October if they had been successful.

But the tickets to go on sale next week did not require applications and could be bought immediately, he said.

Supply was limited for many games.

The sale had always been planned, the spokesman said, and it was similar to a second-chance sale which took place when the first round of tickets went on sale for teams and pools earlier this year.

Organisers were keen to take advantage the Christmas market, he said.

No information was available on how many tickets had been sold for the Dunedin games, or games around the country, but that should be available next month.

Overall, organisers were happy with progress from ticket sales and had met the sales target for this year, he said.

Meanwhile, the final team to qualify for the 2011 edition of the tournament will be determined this weekend.

Romania and Uruguay will clash in Bucharest, where the home team holds the advantage after the sides fought out a 21-21 draw in Montevideo earlier this month.

Whichever team wins will have one of its games in Dunedin, against England.
