The Otago Rugby Football Union will honour club stalwarts at home games this season.
The union is acknowledging a "club legend" at every home game, and will start with Southern club member Mike Reggett.
Union commercial manager Mike Kerr said the club legend idea was about recognising hard-working volunteers who had given long service to their clubs.
The legends would be given their award on the field at Carisbrook before the kick-off at every Otago home game this season.
Kerr said the awards would be handed out during the domestic provincial competition, which was the right place to honour the volunteers, rather than at Super 14 games.
Reggett has been involved with the Southern club for 40 years, following on from his father, Ron, who is also a life member of the club.
Mike Reggett was club captain for 10 years and has been manager of the Southern premier side since 1984.
He has been on the Southern committee for more than 20 years and was made a life member in this, the club's 125th year.
