Rugby: Recovering Braid trains with All Blacks

Auckland flanker Daniel Braid is training with the All Blacks this week, although he has not officially joined the squad.

Braid appeared to be the next cab off the rank when All Black captain Richie McCaw went down with an ankle injury in the second test against England last month.

But Braid suffered a calf injury at the same time as McCaw was injured, so the selectors waited a week and then picked Hurricanes flanker Chris Masoe to fill the void left by McCaw.

An All Blacks spokesman said yesterday Braid (27) would train with the squad this week and also link up with the All Blacks medical staff.

He has not officially joined the squad and may play club rugby this weekend in Auckland.

He was moving reasonably freely at training at the Edgar Centre yesterday.

Lock Ali Williams was the only player to sit out training at the Edgar Centre yesterday, nursing his sore ankle.

The MetService is predicting unsettled weather for the test at Carisbrook on Saturday night.

MetService weather forecaster Kathleen Kozyniak, of Wellington, said the long range forecast for weather on Saturday night was unsettled, with showers likely.

Clear skies are forecast from tomorrow until Friday in Dunedin.

The forecast could change as fronts quickened and weather patterns changed, she said.
