At a training camp at Waikouaiti for the past three days, the squad was challenged to chase sheep, rather than a ball.
But the players were at a distinct disadvantage - they had no dogs, and the sheep were about as obedient as a moody teenager.
Instead of heading down the hill, sheep went in the opposite direction, so many players did what comes naturally to them - if it moves, tackle it.
The training camp yesterday had a rural theme, with players also carrying hay bales and timber posts, and having a go at clay pigeon shooting.
The more conventional rugby practice occurred in the afternoon.
The camp was based along the Survivor television programme, with the squad split into two teams, and each task winner gaining points.
On Monday the side had gone fishing off Moeraki, and then ran up Puketapu hill, with fullback Casey Stone the first back.
The camp would finish today, with the Air New Zealand Cup squad named tomorrow.
