King's High School will travel to Invercargill to take on Southland Boys' while Otago Boys' will host John McGlashan College in the Highlanders First XV competition semifinals next Saturday.

The final round of the regular competition took place on Saturday and Otago Boys' kept up its winning record, beating St Kevin's College 53-5 after leading 32-0 at the break.

The Otago Boys' front row dominated and the game was forced to go to golden oldies scrums near the end of the first half.

Otago Boys' cleared its bench at halftime and those that came on in the second half kept up the momentum. The Otago Boys' midfield found plenty of holes and carved off some big metres with some nice runs.

The match was transferred to Montecillo from Littlebourne and the good surface was much to the liking of the Otago Boys' side.

King's High School beat John McGlashan 16-8 in the first match between the sides this season.

The field at King's High School was affected by surface water and the match was something of an arm wrestle.

The King's forward pack stood tall and never gave an inch and slowly won dominance throughout the game. The match developed into a game of 10-man rugby and there was plenty of kicking, as the conditions did not make it great for running rugby.

Lock Liam Trainor and hooker Joe Cairns-Thompson had good games for King's, while McGlashan first five-eighth Thomas Johnson scored a try and a penalty for all of McGlashan's points. The McGlashan loose forwards got through plenty of work and never tired.

King's lost backs Taylor Haugh (broken jaw) and Liam Maker (shoulder) to season-ending injuries, which will be a blow to the side when it travels south to take on Southland Boys'.

Southland Boys' had a convincing 38-3 win over Waitaki Boys' High School in Invercargill.

Menzies College picked up a 26-7 victory over Mount Aspiring College in Wyndham in the other game in the top eight.

In the bottom six, South Otago High School continued on its winning way with a convincing 43-5 victory over James Hargest College in Invercargill.

Fullback Rory van Vugt was a threat all afternoon and picked up two tries, and lock Damien Wilson got around the park.

South Otago will take on St Peter's College in Balclutha next week in its semifinal and will go into the match with some confidence, having lost only twice this season.

Dunstan High will take on Gore in the other semifinal.

In Alexandra on Saturday, Dunstan High was too good for St Peter's, winning 36-12. Logan Cornish was all over the backline and, playing in a variety of positions throughout the game, managed to score three tries.

Dunstan led 17-7 at the break and was always in control.

In the other match on Saturday, Gore High School beat Central Southland College 50-17 in Gore.
