The Highlanders and the Otago unions will no longer be selling a combined season ticket for home games, with the two now separate businesses.

The Highlanders are already selling season memberships for next year's Highlanders home games, and have an early bird offer for those who buy memberships before September 7.

This year, the Highlanders and Otago had a combined offer for games at Forsyth Barr Stadium, allowing season ticket holders to see a combined 12 home games. Next season, though, they would have no shared tickets.

Highlanders marketing manager Doug McSweeney said the two businesses were now no longer being run together, so it made sense to have separate offers.

He said he could understand why it might have been easier to have one ticket for all the home games at the stadium for both Otago and the Highlanders.

"Historically, Otago used to run the Highlanders, so it made sense to have a combined ticket.

"But that is not the case now and we have decided to go separately," he said.

Otago was still selling season tickets to its home games this season, which kicks off on August 25 against Northland.

Otago Rugby Football Union general manager Richard Kinley said the union was comfortable with the change.

Arrangements had been made so when people purchased a Highlanders season ticket for 2013 they could also pay for an Otago ticket for 2013.

"A lot of people see rugby as being played at the stadium, but we are two different groups now," Kinley said.

The Highlanders had 3200 season members last season and were hoping to get 5000 next season.

McSweeney confirmed the 50% discount given over the past two years to Dunedin City Council ratepayers was to be phased out.

The discount had been given to recognise the commitment given by the ratepayers to build Forsyth Barr Stadium.

But he said people who bought season tickets before September 7 would still get a 30% discount.

Platinum tickets, which were for seats between the two 22m lines in the South Stand, cost $195 each with the discount.

The franchise was especially keen to push the option of payment plans, where tickets could be paid off over the year, he said. Family tickets were also proving popular.

The stadium would host seven home games, while one game would be played in Invercargill.

A season ticket also gave the owner a preferential right to buy a ticket for next year's All Blacks test, which is expected to be a Bledisloe Cup game.

The draw was not yet finalised for next season, but home games were against the four other New Zealand franchises and the Reds, Brumbies, Sharks and Cheetahs.
