Rugby: Donnelly picked in Junior All Blacks

Lock Tom Donnelly is the only Otago player in the Junior All Blacks picked to contest the Pacific Nations Cup next month.

Donnelly (27) is rewarded for some good play towards the end of the Super 14 season.

He will share the locking duties with Bryn Evans, Jeremy Thrush and Jason Eaton.

Hawkes Bay fullback Israel Dagg, who played every minute for the Highlanders this year, is selected, while the other Highlander in the squad is Southland prop Jamie Mackintosh, after he made the All Black touring side last year.

Former Otago halfback Chris Smylie makes the team, along with Canterbury flanker George Whitelock, who spent a couple of years in the Otago system before heading north.

Luke McAlister also makes the side, and will have to prove his fitness to earn a call-up to the senior side for the Tri-Nations.

The Pacific Nations Cup is played in Samoa and Fiji from June 12 to July 3 and also features the national sides from Tonga, Samoa, Fiji and Japan.
