Sanzar announced the list of referees for the Super 15 next year late last week and Dickinson's name was not on it.
Sanzar game manager Lyndon Bray said Dickinson had retired from refereeing and would not be blowing the whistle at the top level again.
"Stuart had a very celebrated career in the top flight for many years and he will be sorely missed by our team," Bray said.
Dickinson had announced his decision to step aside a few months ago.
The Australian had officiated in three Highlanders games last year and had given a yellow card to a Highlanders player in all three.
Dickinson had a somewhat dominating manner during games and often earned the ire of crowds and players.
The 43-year-old retires having controlled 98 games of Super rugby and 47 test matches - the most by an Australian.
He was not selected as one of the 10 referees to officiate at the World Cup, and was moving into the commercial world.
There are four New Zealand referees in the 10-man elite panel for the Super 15 tournament: Bryce Lawrence, Chris Pollock, Keith Brown and Garratt Williamson.
Somewhat surprisingly, Vinny Munro has not been retained from last year's squad along with South African Pro Legoete and Australian Nathan Pearce.
In the 10-man reserve panel, the three New Zealanders are Mike Fraser, Glen Jackson and Jonathon White.
