Details should be announced this week on the North-South match to be played at Forsyth Barr Stadium next month.

As part of the rescue package to save the Otago Rugby Football Union from liquidation, a game between North and South teams was scheduled to be played in June, with the proceeds going to Dunedin Venues Management Ltd (DVML).

The New Zealand Rugby Union was finalising details and was expected to confirm the match date, time, and coaches later this week.

The game will be played in the June window when Super 15 teams take a break and three tests are played between the All Blacks and Ireland.

It appears June 8, the day before the first test between the All Blacks and Ireland in Auckland, is a possible date for the match.

The North-South contest would be played where possible along franchise lines, with no All Blacks available.

The game was the idea of the New Zealand Rugby Players' Association. Its chief executive, Rob Nichol, said it would be a chance for those players the next level down from the All Blacks to show their wares.

He said rather than strictly being a fundraiser for DVML, the game was seen by the association as a thank-you to the Otago public in supporting the Otago union to stave off liquidation and getting to play a game at the new Forsyth Barr Stadium.

He had no fixed figure on how much money he hoped the game would raise.

DVML will cover all costs of the match.
