Grass-roots rugby will be played at Forsyth Barr Stadium this season.
Club games will be played on four days at the venue, and the interschool match between King's High School and Otago Boys' High School will also be played there.
Entry to the ground for the games will be by gold coin donation, which will cover the cost of opening the venue.
Dunedin Venues Management Ltd operations manager Coryn Huddy said just the North Stand would be opened. This meant the operating costs of the stadium would be significantly reduced and should be met.
He said the idea of having club games played at the venue was always the intention but it had taken a while to get sorted.
The big screens at the stadium would not be in operation but the scoreboard would be working.
The corporate suites could still be accessed.
Huddy said the pitch was in good order and would get a work-out over the next few months with ITM Cup matches, club games and the test between the All Blacks and Springboks on September 15.
The club games will be played at the stadium on June 16, June 30, July 7, and July 14.
Otago Secondary Schools Sports Association regional director Des Smith confirmed the interschool match would be played at the stadium on Thursday, June 28.
He said a lot of hard work had gone into securing the venue.
The match was played at Carisbrook last year. The clash is part of the Highlanders First XV competition, and will be televised on the Rugby Channel.
The match will kick off at 1.15pm and Smith hopes for a big crowd.
The Highlanders play the Chiefs at the same venue the following night, and Smith was grateful both franchises would work their pre-match trainings on the ground around the school match.
