Have you improved this season?
Anthony Wetere-Sweet (Waitaki Boys' High School): Definitely. I think we have. Our game has come a long way since the start of the year. Everyone has stepped up from last year. We had about eight or nine guys back from last year and the other guys have improved along with them.
Josh Renton (Otago Boys' High School): I think there is a lot of confidence around the team. Obviously, we have had some pretty good results and we have tried to keep building on that. We know Waitaki have been getting better all year, so we have to be on our game against them. We have had some good trainings this week and just been working on a couple of things to iron out in our game.
Anthony: We have got a few big forwards who create the opportunities for us in the backs. All of the backs, apart from one, are returning from last year, so we know each other pretty well and can make the most of the chances.
Josh: The whole team, really. We have got a great forward pack, really big and strong who can deliver good ball to our backs. It is a bit of a dream ride for a halfback like me. The good ball they give us lets us backs score a lot of tries out wide.
Do you enjoy being captain?
Anthony: I have just taken over the captaincy, as our original captain has picked up a shoulder injury and can't play. I do like it. But I have done it before and I captained the side at year 10 level and enjoyed it then.
Josh: I do enjoy doing it. As a halfback you have to talk anyway, so being a captain is just an extension of that.
What has been the highlight of the season so far?
Anthony: Beating Southland Boys' down there was a great win. I don't think we have done that for a while and it was a pretty good feeling.
Josh: Hopefully, the highlight is still to come. But for the team to go through unbeaten in the six interschools, with five of them away from home, is pretty awesome. To beat Christchurch Boys' High School up there was great. But there are still things we want to achieve as a team.
What is it going to take to win on Saturday?
Anthony: We need to play our own game and concentrate for the whole game and get it right. We have to go in with the right attitude and play with plenty of heart.
Josh: We just need to carry on with how we have been playing. We need to play our own game, hold on to the ball and build our phases.
