King’s outguns Waitaki

King's was too strong for Waitaki Boys’ in an Otago Schools Rugby Championship match in Dunedin yesterday.

The home team pulled away late in the second half to win comfortably 51-19, after leading 25-14 at halftime.

Winger Joel Cook scored from in intercept in the opening minute of the match. He ran in from about 30m out.

And King’s completely dominated the final quarter of the game, running in three further tries.

Waitaki’s challenge had flagged by that stage.

Elusive fullback Sam Nemec-Vial was in great touch. He went in for three tries, while locks Kalani Vanisi and Oliver Dolan put in a fine performance and openside flanker Jake Palmer was industrious.

The win has lifted King’s into a share of second place with Southland Boys’.

John McGlashan leads the division one standings with three wins from three games.

On Tuesday, Dunstan edged South Otago 24-15 in a second division match in Alexandra.

Dunstan first five Samuel Waitoa kicked four penalties and a conversion, and second half tries to forwards Troy Sharman and Sam Chapman helped seal the victory.

For South Otago, prop Jomhel Gonzales scored early and fullback Jimmy Flannery got a late consolation try.
