Stadium records at stake

Records are made to be broken - and one of two impressive records is going to go at Forsyth Barr Stadium on Saturday night.

The Crusaders are coming to town having won 19 Super Rugby games in a row. Their last loss came against the Highlanders at Forsyth Barr Stadium on March 17 last year.

The Highlanders have won 15 games in a row at Forsyth Barr Stadium, and will be gunning for number 16 when the defending champion comes to town.

The Highlanders' last defeat at Forsyth Barr Stadium was against the Crusaders on March 4, 2017.

That was the game in which centre Malakai Fekitoa was yellow-carded in the final few minutes of the game and the Crusaders scored a couple of quick tries to win.

The Highlanders won the match last year at the stadium, through tries to Liam Coltman, Elliot Dixon and Lima Sopoaga.

The Crusaders will head into this Saturday night's match with plenty of confidence. The defending champion has won its first four matches with relative ease and is coming off a big win over the Chiefs. The side sits top of the competition ladder.

The Highlanders have had a mixed start, winning the first two games of the season over the Chiefs and the Reds who are now last and second-last on the Super Rugby ladder. The Highlanders have lost close games to the Rebels and the Hurricanes - both away from home - over the past couple of weeks.

The Highlanders sit sixth on the competition ladder in this early part of the season.

Meanwhile All Blacks and Highlanders halfback Aaron Smith is to be a father. Smith and his partner Teagan Voykovich announced in a social media post yesterday they are to be parents. Smith held a picture of an ultrasound of the baby in the post.
