Rugby: Defence key in Harbour's win over Kaikorai

An outstanding defensive game combined with a contribution of 25 points from Olly Cuthill, snapped Harbour's losing streak against Kaikorai, when it ran out 30-21 victor at Bishopscourt.

Despite having six of nine replacements to the original team list, the Harbour forward pack impressed, and appeared to be unaffected. Ably led by captain Peter Mirrielees, Harbour impressed at both set piece and broken play.

Locks Norris Goldberg and Sam Ready, gathered tidy lineout ball and were dangerous in broken play, proving an invaluable link to a tigerish forward pack. Angus Duckett impressed throughout, featuring prominently in a masterful midfield defensive screen with Corey Kara and Lex Kaleca.

Kaikorai was all too often the architect of its own demise, through poor handling and lack of support play that allowed Harbour to turn ball over in the tackle and regroup.

Open side flanker Adam Hill, along with midfield back Jayden Spence, put in performances of true quality, with both featuring in closing down a number of threatening scoring opportunities from a Harbour team that fully deserved its victory.

- Harbour 30 (Olly Cuthill, Sam Holdaway tries; Cuthill 1 con, 6 pen), Kaikorai 21 (Mitchell Clarke, Cam Rutherford, Sam Cadogan tries; Rutherford 3 con). Halftime: 24-14. Referee: Gareth Reed.
