Crunch time has arrived in the Southern Region competition with the semifinal picture almost complete.

West Taieri are ahead of Crescent by one point as we hit the final week of the round robin.

West Taieri are unable to earn any points this weekend because they have the bye, meaning Crescent have their fate in their own hands.

Crescent face a tough trip to Clydevale to take on a high-flying Clutha Valley side who sit in fourth position.

The two sides contest the John Cross Cup, which Crescent hold. The winner of this game also locks away the South Otago banner, which is a coveted piece of silverware.

If Crescent are victorious, they also wrap up the Springbok Horns for finishing top of the round robin.

Clutha forfeited their chance of hosting a semifinal last weekend when they lost at home to West Taieri.

Clutha sit in third position and face a trip to Swamp Hen Park to face an Owaka side who will be determined to again find the winning feeling.

Clutha Valley sit just one point behind Clutha on the table with both sides secured of semifinal footy.

It will be interesting to see Clutha’s approach depending on who they would rather meet in the semifinal, but with the Art Bloxham Cup on the line, expect them to take this game seriously.

Heriot and Lawrence compete for the West Otago Shield in Heriot tonight.

The home side have yet to win a game this season and will be determined to make their final appearance of 2024 a good one, but Lawrence are coming off a confidence-boosting win over Owaka last weekend and will go in as favourites.

Toko host Clinton in the final game of the round with only a bottom four position to play for.

Clinton cannot host a semifinal, but a win for Toko may get them up the table into home semifinal territory.
