Dunedin Premier rugby: Playoff spots secured in tense final round

Southern clinched the final playoff spot with a tense 18-15 win against Alhambra-Union at Bathgate Park this afternoon.

Fullback Obey Samate drilled two second half penalties in tough conditions to help seal the win.

Harbour edged Taieri 18-17 at Peter Johnstone Park in another thriller to seal its playoff spot.

Kaikorai also made sure of its spot with a convincing 43-10 win against Zingari-Richmond at Montecillo.

University upset front-runner Green Island 27-24 at Miller Park to cement its place in the playoffs as well.

Dunedin, who had a bye this weekend, was left stranded on 21 points and narrowly missed the cut off.

Alhambra-Union and Zingari-Richmond are also out of contention.
