The South Island rowing calendar has been released and has a similar look to last year’s.
Otago’s marquee event, the Otago Championships, will again be held before Christmas, on December 9-10 at Lake Ruataniwha.
The timing ensures it will be one of the major pre-Christmas regattas in the South Island.
It also provides preparation for the bigger regattas in the new year.
Mid-January to mid-February contains the bulk of the rest of the major club regattas.
The Canterbury Championships are the first regatta of 2018, on January 13-14 at Lake Ruataniwha.
They are followed by the Southland Championships on January 20, on the Oreti River, before the South Island Championships on January 27-28, also at Lake Ruataniwha.
That regatta leads into the New Zealand Masters Games on Otago Harbour on February 4, before national masters indoor and outdoor competitions on February 9-11.
The national championships will then be held on Lake Karapiro on February 13-17.
The major school competitions kick into action in March.Th South Island Secondary School Championships are on March 3-4, before the Maadi Cup on March 19-25.
Both will be held on Lake Ruataniwha.
Plenty of local regattas will be held early in the season, and there are other local school regattas throughout the season.
