Otago titles won on, off water

Otago's young rowers had a busy weekend on and off the water.

Students competed in the Otago secondary schools indoor championships on Saturday and the Otago secondary schools championships on Otago Harbour on Sunday.

On Sunday, Otago Boys’ rowers Nic Thorn, Ben Thompson, Henry Lucas Andre Adams and Hunter Ruxton won the senior boys quad.

Thompson and Lucas also won the senior boys double.

John McGlashan had good results in the junior and intermediate grades.

Twizel, who have been an invitational school for the past few years, also performed well, finishing first in many of the girls titles.

Sadie Mason (Twizel) was first across the line in the senior girls singles, followed by St Hilda’s rower Georgia Graham.

St Hilda’s rower Yvie Moore won the intermediate girls singles and teamed with Rosa Herlihy to win the doubles.

Many of those also performed well at the indoor championships at the Otago University Rowing Club on Saturday.

Thompson won the boys under-19 2000m title and Otago Boys’ won the boys relay.

Mason was the fastest in the girls under-19 2000m, but Twizel rowers were ineligible to win the Otago titles.

Bayfield rower Olivia Duffy won the girls under-19 title and St Hilda’s won the girls relay.
