Elyse Fraser (22) will be competing in the women's singles, while Fergus Fauvel (23) will be competing in the men's singles from August 13 to 15.
The pair were selected after achieving the fastest times in their races at the New Zealand university rowing championships at Lake Waihola in April.
This is the first time representing New Zealand for Fauvel, who started rowing three years ago after a friend suggested he enter the University Games.
He was looking forward to the opportunity.
"I'm really excited but it's a wee bit nerve-racking going over and seeing all the competitors."
"It will be fun and it's a great team heading over."
Fraser, who has been rowing for six years, is representing New Zealand for the second time - much to her mother's pride.
"Mum used to row and she always wanted me to row, so she took me down to her club and got me into it," she said.
Fraser competed in the 2008 world university rowing championships, held in Serbia.
Fraser and Fauvel will head to Hungary with four other competitors - two from Christchurch and two from Waikato.
Otago University rowing coach Richard Parr said the pair had been training five hours a day for two months.
Both students want to represent New Zealand at Olympic level in the future, but for now they will be putting in the hard yards for Hungary.
