Strong winds curtailed racing at the national championships at Lake Ruataniwha yesterday.
The regatta started at 8am but the event was suspended at noon when winds increased.
Racing was eventually resumed at 6pm when the remaining races were restarted but reduced to 1000m, but was called off for the day at 6.40pm. There were still plenty of Otago crews in action yesterday. Oamaru’s Mark Taylor was one of the standout performers. He won his heat in the men’s under-20 single sculls to secure a berth in the final.
The Dunstan Arm Rowing Club crew of Kate Hanning, Meg Creagh, Olivia Furrie, Skye Morton and cox Sophie Williamson won their heat in the women’s novice coxed quad sculls to progress directly to the final.
Furrie and Creagh then teamed up in the novice double sculls to win their heat by more than 16sec.
In the men’s club coxless pair, Dunedin brothers Scott and Todd Bezett finished second in their heat to clinch a semifinal berth. Dunstan’s Lucy Geddes and Jas McIntosh are through to the semifinals of the women’s club double sculls after winning their heat.
