The Otago Rowing Association has matched its strong performance on the water with a good year financially.

It has finished in the black in both its cheque and coach accounts, it was announced at the  general meeting this week.

It  closed the year with a balance of $61,429.26, almost $30,000 more than last year.

The Otago championships provided its biggest boost in revenue, accounting for $43,309.40.

The regatta was also its biggest expense, but it was able to keep that to just under $10,000, and limited its overall expenses to $44,245.22.

It retained a positive balance of $14,544.80 in its coach account, down from last year’s $15,986.14.

The financial result leaves the organisation in good health and is coming off a successful year on the water.

President Glen Sinclair, chairwoman Heather Knox and manager Mitch Carroll all commented on the successes of the region’s rowers and coaches. In his report, Sinclair said the work of the work of the ORA executive and Carroll was important in its success.

"We may not have the finances or resources of some of the larger sports but we are forward-thinking, we have great volunteers and a can-do attitude."

In her report, Carroll  said  the record 1174 entrants in the Otago championships  was significant.  It was disappointing bad weather forced the regatta to end early.
