Wynne in line for profitable day

Leading South Island rider Samantha Wynne holds the ace cards in several races on today’s Gore Guineas programme.

Wynne will combine with Who Dares Wins in the Gore Cup and My Typhon in the open sprint.

Who Dares Wins will have his second attempt over 2000m after a horror run in transit spoiled his chances in his first run over the distance at Cromwell late last year.

"We just got settled back in the field and a couple came around and he got keen and he got on the nickel," Wynne said.

"How he didn’t clip heels I don’t know and then he slipped on the turn at the 800m.

"He picked himself up again and I thought it was actually a huge run."

The jockey is hopeful the horse  will have  a more settled run  today in a race that appears to have plenty of pace.

"If he settles he should be hard to beat. It is a nice field but he is in on a nice weight. Come Fly With Me has to give him 5kg though she will be hard to roll."

Along with Come Fly With Me, Coulee, Motorboat Mike and The Gordonian and Dee And Gee loom as dangers to Who Dares Wins who will need to be at the peak of his powers today.

Judging by his recent trackwork, Wynne is confident the two time-winner over New Zealand Cup week will do well.

"I have ridden him in his work for the last couple of weeks and he feels fantastic."

Wynne will combine with Mr Typhon in race 4,  an open sprint.

The Michael and Matthew-Pitman trained 5yr-old  ran third in his last start in listed company at Wingatui on Boxing Day behind Starvoia who contests today’s Telegraph at Trentham.

"He hit the line well and the ground deteriorated pretty quickly for that race, and he is better on top of the ground," Wynne said.

"He is working well and it is not as classy of a field as it was at Wingatui."

Wynne is one of only two senior riders who will not claim an allowance in the race.

That means punters doing the form for the race will need to get their calculators out to compare  the weights.

That will be critical as some claimers will be restricted by the minimum weight at which they are able to ride. Wynne rides Pipiana for the Pitman stable in today’s feature, the Gore Guineas.
