His close relation, Tango Tara, looks hard to beat at Addington tonight.
Exactly how Tango Tara and Tiger Tara are related is a little tricky to explain. The 3yr-old A Rocknroll Dance pacer is from Bettor's Delight mare Tara's Delight, who is a half-sister to Tiger Tara's dam, Tara Gold.
As Tiger Tara is by Bettor's Delight, the pacers have similarities across both sides of their pedigrees.
What heights could Tango Tara reach?
"It is probably a bit early to tell yet. Being by A Rocknroll Dance you are just not sure how he is going to keep developing," trainer-driver Jim Curtin said.
"We will just play it by ear and see what he does this week.
"He is nicely put together and he goes all right."
Tango Tara looks a big winning chance in race 9 tonight on the strength of finishing second after sitting parked for the last lap on debut at Addington last week.
"It was a good way to start, really," Curtin said.
"He just went around and sat out there and he didn't care. He didn't tighten a rein - he was quite happy."
Tango Tara was to be racing alongside Tiger Tara in Australia this season until his sale fell through. Instead, Curtin was able to secure the horse for stable client Russell Nieper.
The horse was previously prepared at Woodend Beach by Greg and Nina Hope for Wanaka owner Grant Anicich, the son of the late Ray Anicich, the breeder of Tiger Tara.
A full brother to Tiger Tara will start in race 1 at Winton tomorrow.
The 3yr-old, named Stingray Tara, is trained at Ryal Bush by Hamish Hunter and will be driven by Brent Barclay.
Stingray Tara has had a strong build-up to racing with five trials and workouts. In the latest, the pacer hit the line nicely when running fourth in a Winton workout.
Stingray Tara was a $52,000 buy by the Whatever Syndicate the 2017 standardbred yearling sales. He was sold by Grant Anicich and co-owner Tim Grant, of Milton.
The pair are breeding from Tiger Tara's dam, Tara Gold.
Tara Gold produced a Betting Line filly this breeding season. She lost a foal by He's Watching last year.
Hamish Hunter lines two horses up in the Wairio Cup today.
Maidonthebeach looks a strong each-way chance on the back of her consistent recent form.
Hunter also has Tiziano, who starts from the 10m back mark.
New Zealand Cup day winner Smokin By looks the horse to beat in the race.
