Franco Ledger gave his owners, the What Ever syndicate and trainer-driver Hamish Hunter, a repeat result of nine years ago when he won the heat of the Sires' Stakes at Forbury Park last night.

The same connections won the 2001 heat with Galleons Treasure.

Franco Ledger ran the 1700m (mobile) in 2.04.6 (1.58 mile rate) and won decisively by a length and a-quarter from the favourite, Thumpem.

Franco Ledger came along the passing lane after tracking Thumpem in the lead. Thumpem gave way to Absolute Classic at the 1100m, then moved one out at the 600m.

Franco Ledger is unbeaten in three starts this season.

"I will probably give him [Franco Ledger] another race before the [Sires' Stakes] Final at Addington on November 9," Hunter said.

Galleons Treasure had two further races before he ran eighth in the final.

"He drew bad and never got in it," Hunter said.

Galleons Treasure won seven races from 21 starts.

The What Ever syndicate comprises 10 members from Otago, two from Southland and another from Perth. The manager is Ken McConnell, of Mosgiel. The syndicate and Hunter have also won this season with The Smiler.

Hunter also drove Elation Franco to an easy win for his brother, trainer Peter Hunter.
