Rewa, who posted her third win in five starts at Washdyke on Friday, was a $700 weanling purchase by her Ashburton owner, Gilbert Butterick.

Rewa, trained at Ashburton by Jan Hay, began racing with a win on her home track in July last year. She was put aside after a second in August. The 4yr-old daughter of Traditionally-Tralae has a second and wins at Waimate and Washdyke in three starts this winter.

She has been ridden in her five starts by Kylie Williams.

"She seems to keep improving all the time. She is quite relaxed until you ask her to give," Williams said.

Mr Butterick bought Rewa at the 2008 weanling sale at Karaka when she was offered by The Oaks stud at Cambridge.

Her sire, Traditionally, has also been represented in New Zealand by Smoulder (Eight Carat Classic and Great Northern Foal Stakes), Atom Cat (Matamata Cup) and Herman Munster (Taumarunui Cup).

Traditionally, winner of the group one Oaklawn Handicap (1800m) in the United States, later stood in Ireland and France.

Rewa is the eighth foal of her dam, Tralae, a Snippets mare who has left three other winners, including Winnunga (seven wins in Australia).

Mr Butterick also races Lamaze, winner of four races, from the Hay stable.

• Kirkdouglas is a newcomer to the Wingatui stable of Paul Richards. The Spartacus gelding won four races when trained by owner Pam Gerard at Ashburton. Kirkdouglas has not raced since September. He will be raced on lease by a syndicate.

• Doni Prastiyou has transferred his apprenticeship to Richards from the Hay stable. Prastiyou (20) has yet to ride in races.

Salem Yusof, who has been apprenticed to Richards, returns to Malaysia on Saturday after 15 months with the stable. He is unsure if he will return to New Zealand. Yusof has ridden 10 winners since he began riding in September. He has ridden All About Alf to win his last three starts.

• Bokkie Bokkie, a six-and-three-quarter-length winner on a heavy track at Gore last September when having her first start, is now trained by Jon Sargent at Riccarton. The daughter of King's Chapel was trained for her win by Steven Prince at North Taieri.
