Wingatui apprentice Shankar Muniandy has received coaching from accomplished jockey Grant Cooksley this week.

Cooksley is now the senior apprentice technical mentor for New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing. The Papakura-based Cooksley has ridden about 2800 winners in New Zealand and Australia.

"He [Cooksley] will spend time one-on-one with the experienced apprentices," said Tom Hazlett, the apprentice mentor for NZTR.

Cooksley has already advised Jason Collett, Daniel Stackhouse and Rosie Myers, New Zealand apprentices undertaking stints in Australia.

Muniandy, who is indentured to Brian and Shane Anderton, has ridden 78 winners, including 38 this season.

He is due to complete a four-year apprenticeship in November. Myers rode two winners at Sandown yesterday, two days after her first Australian win. Myers is based with Paddy Payne, the trainer of Our Pride And Joy, one of her winners yesterday.

Her other winner was Locke's Choice. Myers (24), who is apprenticed to Awapuni trainer Mike Breslin, won on Marotta at Mornington on Monday.

Kelly Myers (28), a cousin of Rosie, is also based with Payne. Kelly has ridden a handful of country winners.
