Malak Uswaad, winner of five of his 10 starts last season, is due to resume racing at Washdyke on Sunday after joining the Templeton stable of Peter and Leonne Jones.

The 4yr-old Bettors Delight-Sirius Flight entire has been back in work for eight weeks.

"He will certainly benefit with the race," Leonne Jones said.

Malak Uswaad was bought last month by Tex Services Ltd from Gaby and Julie Maghzal. Tex Services is the operating company of Bill Green, of Sydney. He is a long-time owner who races horses throughout the world. He also has Wee Brother (eight wins) and Pegleg Web (three) in the Jones stable. Both are progressing in fresh preparations.

It is planned for Malak Uswaad to join a New South Wales stable after the New Zealand Cup meeting in November.

Malak Uswaad was previously trained by David and Catherine Butt. He won first up as a 2yr-old at Alexandra Park. His fifth win was by a margin of seven and three-quarter lengths at Invercargill in January.

• Buy Chevron Direct could prove a worthy replacement for Wilusi Blues. The 3yr-old cleared maiden ranks at Oamaru on Sunday at his second start.

He was bought unraced by Robert and Sharon Symon, of Waianawa, six weeks ago after they had sold Wilusi Blues to Australia. Wilusi Blues won five races from the Leeston stable of Terry and Glenys Chmiel, who train Buy Chevron Direct.

Wilusi Blues, now trained by Luke McCarthy in New South Wales, has raced twice there for a first-up win at Men-angle on August 23.

"I think he [Buy Chevron Direct] is the best horse I have bought," Terry Chmiel said.

He bought the colt out of the stable of Nigel McGrath, who qualified the colt at Motukarara in May.

Buy Chevron Direct subsequently had a setback with a foot abscess. McGrath originally bought the In The Pocket-Jessica Rose colt for $15,000 at the 2010 premier yearling sale when he was offered by breeder Lynn McLachlan (now O'Connell). He is the fourth live foal from Jessica Rose, who has left minor Australia winners Tokyo Drift and High Octane.

Buy Chevron Direct will have his next start at Addington on Friday week but not in a heat of the Sires Stakes.

His owners are not of a mind to pay the $20,000 late entry for the Sires Stakes, Chmiel said. He was entered for the series but the sustaining payments lapsed.

Chmiel said he would fit Buy Chevron Direct with pull-down blinds at his next start.

"I had him in half blinds for his first start but he went a bit keen so I took them off for Sunday. He was inclined to take his mind off the job the last bit."

• Irish Whisper was untroubled to win a maiden trot on Sunday, confirming the big impression he made when he qualified at Forbury Park in a solo effort in July. He went off stride late in his other start at Oamaru last month.

"I think he just got stage fright that day," his trainer, Phil Williamson, said.

Irish Whisper, bred and raced by Bev Williamson, is a half-brother by Sundon to Maori Invasion (three wins).

• Donegal's Guest ran the fastest time at the Addington trials yesterday when he recorded a 2.01.6 mile rate for 1950m (mobile).

The Tim Butt-trained Donegal's Guest has not raced since February. He had two starts as a 2yr-old last season for a third behind Lord Jowers and Monaghan at Invercargill.

• The Forbury Park Trotting Club meeting scheduled for Friday night has been abandoned due to insufficient entries. It is the sixth harness meeting abandoned in the first two months of the new season due to insufficient entries or weather conditions. Two meetings have been abandoned at Forbury Park, three at Addington and another at Gore.

• Black Caviar has been voted Australia's Racehorse of the Year, AAP reports.

Her six group one victories during the 2010-11 season contributed significantly to her trainer, Peter Moody, gaining the award for leading gr one trainer with nine wins.

Her jockey, Luke Nolen, had the most gr one-winning rides, eight.

• Admire could extend his winning sequence to four in the $8000 Graduation final at the Southland greyhound meeting today.

A last-start heat winner on the track in 26.25, Admire has drawn favourably.
