Inferno will start one of the favourites in the 1400m Queenstown Cup at the Otago Racing Club's meeting in Cromwell and with only seven starters will be a big chance of winning.
She is backing up from a competitive race on the middle day of the New Zealand Cup meeting at Riccarton last month when she finished a gallant third in a 2000m open handicap.
Anderton said he was aiming the horse for the Wellington Cup. The plan was for her to race again at Wingatui and Invercargill before heading north.
"It [Cromwell] is a short distance for her but we are looking long-term with a view towards Wellington. It will give her a good tune-up and there is no reason she won't do well," Anderton said.
She had worked well since her last start and though it would undoubtedly be a step up in class heading to Wellington, she had the credentials to do well. The 7yr-old has won two Canterbury Gold Cups.
Her most likely challenge tomorrow could come from the Steven Prince-trained Chaparella.
Chaparella's last start was at Riccarton in the Coupland's Bakeries Mile, where she finished in midfield.
Prince said she was checked quite badly.
"She was just coming into it but was basically cut out of it. She ended up facing the grandstand, almost going backwards," he said.
"She has come up well after that, though, and has trained well."
Prince's short-term goal for Chaparella is the Timaru Cup on December 28.
Chaparella, who finished second in the open handicap at Wingatui on Melbourne Cup Day, will have the in-form Kylie Williams on board.
