Honour Victory, who won the restricted open hurdle at Washdyke yesterday, has the Hawkes Bay Steeplechase as his next assignment.
Honour Victory had not raced over hurdles since he was pulled up in the 2007 Grand National Hurdles at Riccarton.
"He was really in the hurdle race at Timaru to keep him up to the mark for the Hawkes Bay Steeple," Karen Parsons, his co-trainer, said.
Honour Victory won the Great Western Steeple at Riverton three starts back.
Chad Ormsby, the Tauranga jockey, renewed his association with Honour Victory yesterday.
Ormsby will retain the mount for the the $33,000 Hawkes Bay Steeplechase at Hastings on Saturday week.
Nicholman, a decisive winner of the restricted open steeple yesterday, has a steeple at Oamaru, on Wednesday week, next on his agenda.
"He doesn't like bad ground," Brian Anderton, his co-trainer, said.
Nicholman was ridden by George Strickland, the Wingatui-based English rider who was dislodged at the last fence in the previous race when Sunkai fell.
Strickland gained the mount after Stewart Moir broke his collarbone in a race fall.
Joanne Rathbone, the Waverley jockey who rode Birchwood Run to win the Awapuni Hurdles, won the maiden steeple on Militia yesterday.
Jean Schluter, who developed major jumps winner Cuchulainn, produced Daatldomee to win his first start over hurdles yesterday.
Daatldomee won a 2100m maiden race at Washdyke in September from 14 races on the flat.
He is a 5yr-old by Istidaad, winner of the 1999 Australian Cup at Flemington and the Moonee Valley Cup.
Istidaad is also the sire of Birchwood Run and Hooker Road, winner of the Australian Hurdle at Sandown on Saturday.
The Kaiapoi-based Schluter won a maiden hurdle with Cuchulainn at Washdyke in May, 1999 when the gelding was a 6yr-old.
He earlier had one win on the flat.
He won an open hurdle at Riccarton at 6 before being transferred to Matamata trainer Margaret Falconer.
The son of Pat's Victory won a steeplechase at Pukekohe as a 9yr-old.
He was then leased to Graeme Robb, of Katikati, and joined the Matamata stable of Bob Autridge.
Cuchulainn subsequently won the Wellington and New Zealand Grand National Steeplechases in 2003 and the 2004 Great Northern Hurdles.
Salazar, the winner of seven flat races, won the other maiden hurdle yesterday.
The Grosvenor 9yr-old was having his 112th start and his seventh over hurdles.
Salazar was treated for an injury to his hind leg after the race.
Tom Hazlett injured his wrist in a fall from Whata View in the hurdles yesterday and he was stood down from his ride on Ice Pack.
"I will be right for Wanganui on Thursday. I have a plate in the wrist and must have given it a whack," Hazlett said.
