A freshen-up has served Supreme Genes well before his assignment at Gore on Saturday, following a trials win on Saturday.
The 4yr-old son of Elsu paced the 2000m in 2.35.8 at Oamaru on Saturday, pleasing his Oamaru trainer David Heffernan after he gave the gelding a break.
Supreme Genes finished fourth at Waikouaiti on February 10, a run which disappointed Heffernan at first.
''I thought he should have been a bit braver, but looking back, he still whacked away and was only a length and three-quarters off the winner,'' Heffernan said.
''I've freshened him since then. He's grown up and grown a bit taller.''
Supreme Genes is nominated for a $8000 non-winners mobile pace at Gore on Saturday.
The Phil Williamson-trained Ruby Castleton and Beyond Me are set for different meetings this week after their respective successes at Oamaru.
Ruby Castleton will head to Gore to attempt to break maidens on debut in a 2200m stand, while Beyond Me starts off 10m in a 1-5 win trot at Forbury Park tomorrow night.
Dwindle Mist and Miss Pegasus will provide Williamson with a two-pronged attack at Rangiora on Sunday in a $12,000 mobile trot.
