Racing: Five horses in field of 9

Leading trainer Michael Pitman plans to start five horses in a nine-horse field for the 3yr-old race at Riccarton tomorrow.

Pitman, who has won 98 races this season, has 17 horses engaged at Riccarton.

"The five will start in the 3yr-old race as they are all eligible for a $30,000 Cambridge Lodge bonus," Pitman said.

His quintet is Rememberance, Slam Dunk, Coup Overbaked, Redfern and Aqualine.

Windwhistle, a decisive winner at Washdyke on Sunday, could thwart the Pitman challenge. Apprentice Ryan Hurdle will ride Windwhistle with Courtney Van Der Werf required for Slam Dunk, a last-start maiden winner at Wingatui.

Matthew Cropp, the Matamata jockey, fractured his wrist in a fall when schooling a horse yesterday. He has been ruled out of riding at Te Aroha today.

He has the wrist in plaster.

He had the mounts on Yeah But No But and Big Einstein.

Riders Leith Innes, Trudy Thornton and Alysha Collett were suspended for careless riding at Ruakaka on Wednesday. Thornton, who defended the charge, is out from Sunday until July 6.

Collett is out until midnight next Friday and Innes until midnight next Saturday.
