Trainer Geoff Kelk compares Banyula Fella to his former good winner, U Cee Alay.
Banyula Fella cleared maiden ranks at his second start yesterday.
He led and came again after being headed in the run home.
"He is a similar type to U Cee Alay," Kelk said.
U Cee Alay won six races before he was sold to the United States in 2002.
Banyula Fella is by the same sire, Holmes Hanover.
Kelk races Banyula Fella with the Flashmic syndicate, comprising eight Ashburton stock agents, some first-time owners.
The group includes Richard Ashworth, who has raced several horses including Barnett's Dream, Jaguar Bet, Clip The Ticket and Infallible.
Banyula Fella was a replacement for To The Stars Bowen, who was placed for the syndicate.
"I usually only train my own horses but I have worked with these guys in the farming business," Kelk said.
He shifted to Winchmore from Beaumont 19 years ago.
They bought Banyula Fella as a yearling from Wai Eyre Farm.
• Coolit Q T Dryden, who won at odds of 42 to one yesterday, is a family affair.
He is raced by Robin and Barbara Geddes, of Greenpark, and their sons, Brent and Ryan.
Robin is the trainer and Brent the driver.
Coolit Q T C Dryden was bred by the Geddes family.
Jarvsofaks, probably the smallest horse racing yesterday, led for the last 2000m to win a maiden trot.
The 3yr-old, who had been placed in three of his other six starts, is trained by Nigel McGrath for Meredith Wilson, Anthony Bailey, Trevor and Tony Mounce, Margaret Evans and Bruce Taylor.
• Jarvsofaks was a $15,000 purchase at the 2008 Australasian Classic yearling sale.
Jarvsofaks is by Dream Vacation and the first foal of Mountain Track, a half-sister to Mountain Spring, whose 10 wins as a trotter included the Challenge Stakes at Auckland.
• Peter Ferguson, the New Zealand representative, is leading the world driving championship in Norway.
Ferguson has 98 points after three of the five rounds.
He has 98 points, two ahead of Bjorn Goop, of Sweden.
• Dustin Bromac, who finished second to Telemecanique at Forbury Park last Thursday, has joined the stable of Cran Dalgety at West Melton.
