Racing: Change of fortunes for Moore

A win on Peyow Peyow at Ascot Park yesterday was a triumph over adversity for apprentice Brittany Moore.

Moore (20) was having her fourth ride back after 10 months on the sideline through a knee injury.

"She had to borrow money to have surgery on the knee when the ACC [Accident Compensation Corporation] declined to pay," Michael Pitman, her mentor, said.

"The matter is still under dispute."

Moore resumed riding at Motukarara nine days earlier. She is the partner of Pitman's son, Matthew, who shares the ownership of Peyow Peyow with his mother, Diane.

It was the 10th win for the Hunza Court gelding.

The Pitman stable won the $45,000 Spring Classic (2000m) at Riccarton on Saturday with Chase The Sun.

The Pentire 7yr-old was having his second start for Pitman after joining the stable five weeks ago from Melbourne.

Chase The Sun, owned by Pitman's brother, John, of Christchurch, won the Tatura Cup (1600m) at Tatura (Victoria) when trained by Mike Moroney.

Chase The Sun ran second to Vigor over 2520m at Flemington. He won over 2000m at Te Rapa and 1400m at Ellerslie and Te Rapa when trained by Denise Jeffcoat at Pukekohe.

Chase The Sun was away from racing for 14 months from January, 2009 after he bowed a tendon.

Daniel Stackhouse consolidated his position as the leading apprentice this season with four wins at Riccarton on Saturday.

Stackhouse won on Answer, Go Go Dingo, Imani and Callystar to take his tally to 24 wins in the first 10 weeks of the new season.

Stackhouse is now down to a 1kg claim after riding 60 winners. The four wins is his best tally in a day since he began riding three years ago. He did not ride at the Southland meeting yesterday as he had only one engagement. His next meeting is Otaki on Thursday.

Stackhouse has been engaged to ride Ishiabeel in the Cuddle Stakes (1600m) at Trentham on October 23. He has ridden Ishiabeel in wins at Ashburton and Washdyke, both over 1600m, in her last four starts. She is trained by Terri Rae, who has Go Go Dingo and Imani.

Jason Laking was suspended until October 22 inclusive for careless riding at Riccarton. He admitted allowing Arctic Ace to shift in near the 1100m, crowding Crystal Duke and causing a severe check to Royal Flight.
