Jamie Bullard is the new rider for Comanche Gold, the Riccarton specialist, who is stepping up to 1800m in the New Zealand Cup Trial there tomorrow.

Comanche Gold, the topweight with 59kg, has gained six of his seven wins at Riccarton, five over 1600m and the other over 1400m.

He ran on stoutly to win over 1600m under 56.5kg there last Friday when ridden by Lisa Allpress.

Lance Robinson and Jamie Bates have ridden Comanche Gold in his other wins.

Comanche Gold is by Hawkeye, who has sired winners beyond 1600m.

Mark Sweeney is the new rider for Champagne Katie in the Canterbury Belle Stakes.

The half-sister to 2009 Canterbury Belle winner Brown Eyed Grace was ridden by Chris Johnson when she cleared maiden ranks at Riccarton last Friday. Johnson had a prior commitment to Glade, whom he rode to a last-start maiden win at Wingatui. Glade is among five horses in the 12-horse field trained by Michael Pitman.

Sweeney opted to make the trip from Te Awamutu to ride at Riccarton and he has replaced injured Robert Hannam on Champagne Katie, Aussieaussie, Browne Sugar and Goldfinger, members of the Riccarton stable of Kevin and Pam Hughes.

"Champagne Katie worked lovely this morning and Aussieaussie is fit and well but he may need the race," Kevin Hughes said.
