Trilogy has been nominated for the $1 million Auckland Cup at Ellerslie on March 9 after advancing from winning a maiden race at Gore two months ago to success in a $30,000 premier event at Riccarton on Saturday.

The 5yr-old daughter of Generous-Glowing Wave is trained at Rangiora by Lester Morris, who races her with longtime friend John Askin, of Rangitata.

Trilogy, who has raced 17 times, won over 2500m at Riccarton following wins at Gore (2000m, maiden), Motukarara (2200m), Wyndham (2000m) and Washdyke (2100m). She has won in all types of track conditions.

The Auckland Cup is 3200m.

Trilogy, who was bought by Morris for $2500 as a 2yr-old at the 2009 South Island sale, has amassed $39,525 in stakes. She had been offered as a racing and breeding proposition by Raewyn Ramage, of Christchurch, after an unplaced run in a trial in October, 2008.

Generous, the sire of Trilogy, won the English and Irish Derbies in 1991. He began stud duty in Japan and stood six seasons in New Zealand, siring Philamor (Avondale Guineas). He is now back in Ireland.

He has sired the German group one winners, Mystic Lips (Oaks) and Catella. Generous is the sire of the dam of Golan (winner of the English Two Thousands Guineas and Queen Elizabeth Stakes).

Glowing Wave, the dam of Trilogy, was bred in the United States.

She has also left Zilzip, a winner over 3600m in France.

"I bought her [Trilogy] on pedigree as her dam, granddam and greatdam are by Kentucky Derby winners," Morris said.

Glowing Wave is by Sea Hero (1993 Kentucky Derby) from Golden Secretariat, by Secretariat (1973) from Rare Exchange, by Swaps (1955).

Morris has had some useful training wins including the 2007 Waverley Cup with Quantum Dude, 2007 Dunedin Cup (Its All Good), 1984 listed Lion Brown Handicap at Riccarton with Super Dude and the 2007 Invercargill Cup (Son Of The Oak).

"She [Trilogy] is probably the best stayer I have had," he said.

"I will keep her ticking over until I sort out her programme. She just stands that much work."

The Australians Daryl and Glenn Douglas are favourites with the New Zealand TAB in two betting options in the series for invited brothers at the Oamaru Harness Racing Club meeting tomorrow.

The options are to win the series and a match with mid-Canterbury brothers Gerard and Leo O'Reilly.

The brothers amassing the most points win the four-race series. The Douglas brothers are at $2.70 to win and $1.80 in the match.

• Early Choice, now trained at Tomahawk by Bob Straight, won a trial at Forbury Park yesterday.

The winner of three races, Early Choice had her most recent win at Rangiora last December when trained by John Bennett.
