One harness racing career began as another continued to flourish at Forbury Park last night.

Leading reinsman Blair Orange scored his 200th win of the season when successful with GT Reactor in race 6.

In the next race, Canterbury horsewoman Megan McIntyre scored her first training success when Go Kiwi triumphed.

Orange proved he could win with just about any horse when helping GT Reactor break a 19-race winless streak.

Waikouaiti trainer Amber Hoffman admitted she did not have high winning hopes for the 4yr-old, who was having his first for the stable.

"It was a bit of a surprise," she said.

"I just think the change of scenery and working at the beach has sparked a bit of life into him."

Orange adopted what some would consider bold tactics on the Auckland Reactor pacer. Some drivers might have stayed in the running line at the 700m with a badly-out-of-form horse like GT Reactor. Instead, Orange asked the horse for a solo three-wide bid.

The champion reinsman's ability to assess a race scenario resulted in a last-stride win.

"He got a brilliant Blair Orange drive," Hoffman said of GT Reactor.

"The horse has shown he has good-heart rate in his training, but he lacks high speed. Blair summed it up perfectly the way he worked him into it."

In doing so, GT Reactor provided his Waikouaiti part-owner, Brian Scanlan, with his biggest thrill in harness racing.

"It was really exciting. He is my first horse," Scanlan said.

Orange began the meeting on 198 wins for the season.

He gave Alexy a perfect run in the trail to win race 5 and go to 199 wins.

The veteran pacer was having his first start for trainer Darryn Simpson after being claimed out of Denis O'Connell's Waikouaiti stable last week.

Like GT Reactor, Go Kiwi produced a sustained finish to win.

The favourite looked in some trouble before the home turn when the horses in front of him were not taking him into the race.

Driver Ben Hope peeled the 5yr-old four wide at the 400m and Go Kiwi produced a big finish to win.

McIntyre had effectively trained the horse to win his first two races when she worked for his previous official trainers, James and Jim Geddes.

Gaining her first win in her own right made last night's win even more memorable.

"It was awesome. When you do it in your own name it is a bit more special."

McIntyre trains Go Kiwi from the Burnham property of her employer, Mark Jones.

Jones produced Gimmefiveminutesmore, driven by Sheree Tomlinson, to win the last race on the programme.
