Orange won his 230th race when steering All Nuts N Bolts to win for trainer David Pearce.
The victory took Orange past Dexter Dunn’s record of 229 wins.
Orange notched his 1500th win in New Zealand with Shezza GNP at Addington in February. In May, Orange became only the second driver in New Zealand to win 200 races in a season when winning with Mogul at Palmerston North.
He is almost assured victory in the national drivers’ premiership at the end of this month and his final tally will set an all-time record for wins in a season.
Despite losing his national win record, Dexter Dunn also had a remarkable weekend.
The reinsman went from his sick bed to the winner’s circle in less than 24 hours in Brisbane on Saturday night.
Dunn, who has won the past 10 national driving premierships, was stood down from driving at Addington on Friday night because of illness. It is believed he suffered a case of food poisoning.
That did not stop him making the trip to Brisbane before producing a perfect drive to with the group 1 Black’s A Fake Championship with Let It Ride.
Dunn was back in New Zealand yesterday and won at Rangiora with Machs Mareta.
