Trainer-driver Brad Williamson had the 7yr-old in front shortly after the start and she would not let her rivals past in the running or at the finish of her 2700m win.
The favourite, Only One Way, had several cracks for the lead during the race but each time, Zoned Scarlett would kick up underneath him and keep hold of the front.
The extra work took no toll on the trotter, who powered away from her rivals to score a comfortable victory.
Williamson said it was a case of Zoned Scarlett being in the zone yesterday.
“She is quite a hard mare to get a line on because she has had a few niggles, so I try not to work her too hard.
“Because of that, you never exactly know what she is going to be like when she goes to the races.
“It was a pretty good effort today, because Only One Way had a few cracks at her.”
Zoned Scarlett completed a training and driving double for Williamson after Rakabeach won race 3.
The 4yr-old held on to win after rival Don’t Need An Excuse galloped when challenging the winner.
Some suggested Don’t Need An Excuse was on the way to beating Rakabeach, but Williamson is not so sure of that.
“My horse had blinds on, so when the other horse started coming she was lifting.”
Williamson’s brother, Nathan, produced a pinpoint drive to win race 10, yesterday’s feature pace.
The trainer-driver found Franco Santino a perfect run in the trail from the outside of the mobile arm for him to sprint to victory in the 2200m feature.
The Invercargill Cup is the main target for the horse, but Williamson may consider another race before then.
“He is not the kind of horse that races week to week.
“He will definitely go to the Invercargill Cup, but we might nominate for a race before then.”
Trainer-driver Robbie Holmes won the race unofficially considered the last on the Otago-Southland Christmas and New Year harness racing circuit when Good On Ya Kiwi won race 11 yesterday.
The 5yr-old made hard work for himself when he broke behind the mobile and lost ground in his last start at Cromwell on Sunday.
The pacer was on his best behaviour yesterday, leading all the way to score in rating 54-59 company over 2200m.
“He is quite a nice horse, but he can do things like he did at Cromwell,” Holmes said.
“He can be a bit nervy behind the gate and it seems to happen when he’s a bit fresh.”
